Connecting to the Milligan Wireless


Our academic buildings and residence halls have a new wireless network available. This new network is named Milligan_University and provides high-speed access to the internet for our faculty, staff, and students.

Questions and Answers

How do I connect my laptop, tablet, and phone?

Connecting to the Milligan wi-fi is simple.
  1. Choose Milligan_University from the wireless options on your laptop computer, tablet or phone.
  2. You will be presented with a login screen. Enter your Milligan username and password. (Your Milligan login name looks like smit5327.)
  3. Accept the terms and conditions.

IS THE MILLIGAN_UNIVERSITY WIRELESS SECURE?

While there is no lock symbol on the wireless signal, the Milligan_University wireless is secured by ClearPass technology. Only faculty, staff and students with Milligan credentials can access this network. Any web site that accepts passwords or sensitive information should be encrypted by the company that designed that web site. Look for the lock symbol in your browser to make sure the information you enter is secure.

Can guests connect to the Wi-Fi?

Yes! Guests of Milligan are welcome to connect.
  1. Choose Milligan_University from the wireless options on your laptop computer, tablet or phone.
  2. Click Guest Access which is below the username and password boxes.
  3. Enter your name and email address.
  4. Accept the terms and conditions. You will be connected for 24 hours. You can connect again each day you are on campus.

What about other devices?

To connect other devices (TVs, game consoles, streaming devices, etc.), follow these steps.
  1. Locate your device’s MAC Address (physical address).
  2. Using a computer, phone, or tablet that is already connected to the Milligan_University wireless, log into https://device.milligan.edu/guest
  3. Follow the prompts to register your device(s).
  4. Once you have registered a device, connect it to the Milligan_University wireless.

How do I find my MAC address (physical address)?

Every Wi-Fi capable device includes a unique 12 character series of letters and numbers called a MAC Address. You will need this address to connect your device to the Milligan Wi-Fi. We have included typical steps below for finding the MAC Address of many common devices. If your device is not listed, check your manufacturer’s website for instructions.  

Game Consoles

Nintendo 3DS

  1. Go to System Settings.
  2. Tap on Internet Settings.
  3. Tap Other Information.
  4. Tap Confirm MAC Address.

  1. From the Wii U menu, Select System Settings.
  2. Select the Internet icon and Press the A button.
  3. Select View MAC Address.

  1. Select System Settings from Home menu.
  2. Scroll to Internet and press A.
  3. MAC will be listed under System MAC Address.

  1. Press the Xbox Button on Controller.
  2. Scroll to gear icon and click on All Settings.
  3. Scroll to Network and Press Network Settings.
  4. Press Advanced Settings – You should now see Wireless MAC.

  1. Power up PS4 without a disk.
  2. From main menu, select Settings.
  3. Select System > System Information.
  4. MAC address will now be displayed.

  1. Using the remote press Menu.
  2. Navigate to Network and press Enter.
  3. Navigate to Wired/Wireless (Depending on connection).
  4. Press Network Test (MAC address will now be listed).

  2. Scroll to Settings, Press Enter.
  3. Scroll to Preferences, Press Enter.
  4. Scroll to Setup, Press Enter.

  1. Press Menu button.
  2. Navigate to Network, Press ok.
  3. Navigate to Manual Setup, Press ok.
  4. Wireless MAC Address will be visible near the bottom.

  1. Press “Connect Now” from home screen, if not first time setup.
  2. Scroll through the list of wireless networks to “Scan again/Scan again to see all networks.”
  3. An info panel should appear showing the MAC address.

Streaming Devices

Amazon Fire TV/ FireTV Stick

Brand new devices

  1. If your Fire Stick is brand new, it may attempt to connect to our wireless network when you first turn it on.
  2. Press your remote’s back button to return to the “preferred language” screen.
  3. Choose your language.
  4. When asked to choose a network, scroll to the end, and your MAC address will be the last tile.

Older devices

  1. From FireTV home screen, Navigate to settings.
  2. Click on System > About > Network.
  3. Scroll to the end, and your MAC Address will be the last tile.

Google Chromecast

  1. If your device has been used on a different Wi-Fi network in the past, perform a Factory Reset before continuing:
    • Google Home: Press and hold microphone mute for 15 sec.
    • Home Mini: Press and hold FDR button under power cord for 15 sec.
    • Chromecast: While powered on, hold button on side of device, wait for LED to turn from orange to white, then release button.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Follow setup instructions for your device.
  4. When you reach the “Connect to WiFi” step, tap the three dots in the upper right corner and choose “View MAC Address.”

  1. Navigate to Settings (Gear Icon) using remote.
  2. Select General > Network.
  3. MAC address will show up as Wireless ID.

  1. Go to Settings from Home Screen.
  2. Go to Network.
  3. Select Wireless connection.

Printers

If your printer is connected to your computer via USB cable, you don’t need to register it. USB printing is the preferred method for residence halls because it is most secure. To find your printer’s MAC address, one of the following steps normally will work:
  1. Check your printer’s manual.
  2. Print a configuration page (test page) from your printer.
  3. Refer to the label on the back of the printer.
  4. Refer to your printer manufacturer’s web page.
